Central Florida Chapter Notes
This year's picnic for the B1G Central Florida Alumni Chapters will be held on August 17th starting at 11am at the Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake in the Metrowest area. Cost is $17 per person (children under 8 free). SORRY! THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE HAS NOW PASSED! SEE YOU AT THE PICNIC!
This venerable website is getting crusty around the edges, and so is its long-time master, the inimitable Nittany Turkey, who soon will be put out to pasture. Accordingly, you'll be seeing a new look and a new webmaster soon. Jeff Ecker has graciously volunteered to take the reins and he will be off to the races just as soon as this turkey can organize the information he'll need for a seamless and peaceful transfer of power. In the meanwhile, I'd like to thank you all for putting up with my curmudgeonly shenanigans and occasional neglect! GO LIONS!
Please check us out on Facebook! Our group has 155 members at present and is always the place for lively discussions of all Penn State topics.
Our Chapter is in discussions with the Tri-County Florida Chapter (a/k/a our friends from The Villages) to make a commitment to raise $50,000 for a Trustee Matching Endowment. Read more about it here.
We are headed back to Miller’s Orlando Ale House in Winter Park for yet another great season of viewing parties.
We are proud to announce this year’s scholarship winner is sophomore Kayleigh Baker from Kissimmee.
Kayleigh is one of only about 60 students who has been selected to participate in the Penn State Architecture Program. These students put in countless hours of work in a studio and during her first year, Kayleigh helped build a design structure for Penn State’s Recycling Center, made entirely out of recycled materials.
Kayleigh also participates as a Lion Scout for the main campus, where she not only gives tours of campus to prospective students, but also participates in fundraising and works with students recently accepted to Penn State. Kayleigh also has been inspired to combine these two “worlds” by proposing a new tour on campus for those interested in learning little-known architectural secrets about Penn State. She invites all of us back to campus for a tour with her!
Please join me in congratulating Kayleigh and all of our local students attending Penn State this coming fall!
